It needs to be pointed out that, according to the Observer at the time, Vince McMahon personally called Ted Turner in 1989 to beg him to make sure that WCW didn't initiate a bidding war so they could both keep talent costs down.

RIP Ted Turner. His impact in this world is far beyond it, but I’m thankful he kept the lights on for WCW as long as he did.

Beyond the influence that Ted's empire had on wrestling pre-90s, if he doesn't buy JCP in the late 80s and there's no WCW, WWF has a monopoly a decade early. No Monday Night Wars to renew the industry after Hulkamania. Wrestling is still run on the playbook that was written then.

Turner was a giant of cable TV, and when wrestling became the first show to hit a million viewers on the emerging technology, it was on Ted's TBS. He never forgot that and stayed loyal for the rest of his career in television:

Apart from Vince McMahon, Ted Turner is the most influential figure of the last 50 years of wrestling. He was Vince's opposite, chaotic good to his chaotic evil: Southern, liberal, Incredibly successful at a million ventures outside of wrestling. No wonder Vince hated him.

One of the reasons I always loved the Spring Talladega race was because that’s when Jeff Gordon usually ran his Pepsi paint scheme. Of course, with today being Talladega, I had to bust out the Jeff Gordon Pepsi shirt today for the race. 😁

This feels like the superspeedway races I've driven on NASCAR 25 where I've turned the fuel consumption and tire wear up to 3X. Everyone is so spread out on their various pit strategies.

Honestly, I've really enjoyed how this first stage has played out, with drivers deciding to just go for it instead of fuel saving, along with multiple pit road issues across the field. If this is convincing me of anything, it's that we don't need stage cautions at the superspeedways.

I'm surprised that it's taken some of these teams until now to go "hey lets just go full throttle" instead of fuel saving with the rest of the pack. You're not going to get anywhere doing the same thing that everyone else is doing. Try something different!

Super curious to see how these changes to stage lengths impacts the racing at Talladega today as well.

Well, the ARCA Menards Series and the O'Reilly Auto Parts Series put on some incredibly entertaining races yesterday at Talladega. Would it should me if the Cup Series race is the worst of the weekend? Absolutely not, but hey, it's Talladega. Anything can happen.

So Daniel Dye goes from a Truck Series ride with Kaulig and Dodge, to getting suspended by NASCAR and being released by Kaulig for what he said about David Malukas, to….a part-time Cup Series ride?

Well....time for a new Formula 1 season. A lot's been said about these new regulations (mostly negative), and we've already got two drivers (Piastri and Hulkenberg) out before the lights even go out for different reasons. Should be a fascinating first race.

What an unbelievable start to the year for Tyler Reddick and 23XI Racing. He becomes the first driver in the history of the NASCAR Cup Series to win the first three races of the season. Wild to see this happening after the team's future was very much in doubt with the trial last December.

Alex Palou man....what else is there to say? His domination of the IndyCar Series continues. Can anybody on the IndyCar grid stop him?

About time to kick off the 2026 IndyCar Series Season with the Grand Prix of St. Petersburg! Such a cool/fun race track.

I honestly have no idea what NASCAR was thinking with that All-Star Race format. The inversion is great, but other than that, this might as well be the Dover 350 aka a 37th Points Race. Completely absurd. After the season started off so well, this is the first major misstep.

Regardless of what happens with the finish, there's no denying that Carson Hocevar is the most entertaining driver in the sport right now. The dude has no fear.

Should be interesting to see how this race at Atlanta plays out to today. Bright and Sunny, but cool and VERY windy.
