just configured my pds.env for my account to look to my appview appview.willdot.xyz which has only the well known endpoint implemented. When I looked at the Bluesky app, my following feed still worked, but the other feeds did not. Why did the following feed still work when not implemented? 🤔

Ever since I started using Tap for something earlier this week, I keep seeing discussions about it. It’s a very interesting space and problem that I’m glad is getting some attention and love.

Another question about Tap. Even though I'm only tracking x amount of DIDs for a couple of collections, is it still consuming the entire firehose and then only firing the events I've told it I care about to my application?

I’m enjoying Rust. It’s challenging my brain which is fun. But I can’t help but think I’m doing something wrong. Feel like I’m just hacking it together without any real structure. I’ve looked at other repos and I’m not seeing any “patterns” of how things are structured. Am I missing something!

For those of you who use Tap, what kinda resource usage are you seeing? I'm trying to run it on my 4GB Pi3, tracking 337 repos and filtering collections by app.bsky.feed.post,app.bsky.graph.*. I'm seeing up to 2.5GB of memory used. Is that because it pulls entire repos down when first tracking?

Never under stood robots.txt. They could just not follow the orders given 🤷‍♂️

No idea why but my PDS just started returning http 501 to a bunch of requests so I couldn’t load anything in the app. Nothing a server restart can’t fix but weird behaviour any way 🫠

Ohhh found another hurdle in my distributed PDS. When events are sent to the relays, those events are persisted to the database so that they can be replayed (relays can send a cursor to start from a point in time). The new standalone service that does the broadcasting to relays... 1/n

I did it. It actually works 🥲 I have 2 Cocoon PDS instances running. Instead of pushing events to the websockets to relays, I have a separate service that they post events too. That separate service then handles the websockets connections the relays connect to and the push the events received..

I’ve never given a presentation at a conference and never really wanted to due to my hatred and fear of public speaking. But I just day dreamed giving one about distributed PDS’ and let me tell you this… it was incredible. I’d give a good presentation.

30 or 40 mins into the new Super Mario film, this family comes in muttering “I thought the adverts would still be on, we aren’t that late”. 5 minutes later they get up, and walk out. Wrong screen 😂

When calling com.atproto.sync.requestCrawl does the hostname sent in the request have to exactly match the PDS or could it be a sub domain? For example: pds404.uk is the host of a PDS but could I request a crawl for one.pds404.uk and have it work? 🤔

I wonder if somewhere one earth, at the right time, if you’ll be able to see the space craft passing the moon 🤔 it’ll probably be the size of a dust spec though
