Happy Tuesday! Today marks the third week-a-versary of The Dead Milkmen being out, and as you may know, the band played a trilogy of shows in California this weekend. I was unable to be out there, but several friends were excited to send me photos and text me about their experiences (not to mention a vast internet of strangers sharing a deep well of content of variable quality).

My Appearance on XCSB’s Yugoslav Cultural Program
Happy Two-week-aversary (plus one day) to The Dead Milkmen. It's a busy time, especially for the band, who are playing a trio of shows in California this weekend. The first two - the Belly Up Tavern in Solana Beach (just call it San Diego) and Toxic Toast Theatre1 in Long Beach (don't you DARE call it Los Angeles) - sold out in blinks.

One Week of ‘The Dead Milkmen:’ Views and Reviews
Because Friday's 'This Counts as Research' subject was a heavy one, I decided to bulldoze this pile of links to today in honor of the week-aversary of The Dead Milkmen. The response has been overwhelming in the best way, with friends new and old sharing photos of their copies, freshly arrived in the mail. The crazy part is that every person who has, happens to be incredibly cool, smart, and good-looking!

It wasn't so much the fish-in-barrel predictability of this distortion (see Deville's spiel), but how quickly it happened. Anybody who was anywhere close to hipsters 20 years ago remembers how much they loved Xiu Xiu and hated pretty much everything in that graphic.

New legislation pitches: - No (new) 7-inch record shall ever cost more than $10. - If your site advertises "all-in pricing," and the customer is then asked for a single cent more (for anything) before the tickets are theirs, you must reimburse them for the amount because YOUR PRICING IS NOT ALL-IN.

This Counts as Research! (The Dead Milkmen) Volume 1: THE JERROCK TAPES
For much of 2025, I was deep in the throes of archival research and interviews with/about the Dead Milkmen for my forthcoming (aptly titled) book The Dead Milkmen, which you can preorder from J-Card Press here. With any book project, especially on such an eclectic and long-running band, there were many stories and artifacts that, for various reasons, slid into the margins or I needed to cut for space.

The Kingston Indie Comic Expo was, to the surprise of nobody, an absolute delight. Was KICx good enough to elicit such a terrible, click-bait, poorly punctuated, Midwest-Emo title? I would go so far as to say yes. This was the third year of the Kingston Indie Comics Expo, co-founded by a trio of…

This was the third year of the Kingston Indie Comics Expo, co-founded by a trio of local entrepreneurs including, perhaps most relevant to this site, the geographer Cristopher Livecchi. He was teaching online courses in the region during COVID when he decided to seize the opportunity to…

In today's (short) post: a 1944 film of Montreal (companion piece for Postcards from Irving 13), plus a great series on Instagram about the history of punk in Bandung.

Postcards from Irving 13 Companion Piece: Montreal, 1944 (Film)
Happy Tuesday! In addition to numerous mid-week tasks on campus, I'm in the middle of a celebratory post about the Kingston Independent Comic Expo, along with the first (of many) posts about the making of the upcoming Dead Milkmen book. In the meantime: the algorithm blessed me with this magnificent 1944 film showing life in pre-'Quiet Revolution' Montreal. Think of it as a great companion piece to…
