Also, the one I end up telling people the most: Enjoy making art. You may or may not be able to make a career out of it. But if you enjoy it, learn from it and express yourself, that time wasn't wasted. If you don't enjoy it, it's a lousy career anyway. Making art as a hobby is just as valid.

I feel this. It's no coincidence that gardening was something I enjoyed this year. Fewer devices, less tracking, more care. Paper books, friends IRL, walking, tea, perfume, cinema, gigs... Just be mindful that the attention economy is *not*your friend and not everything is accomplished by shopping.

Hard truth: Just because you don't like a piece of media? That doesn't mean it's bad. Sometimes, you just aren't the right audience. Sometimes, it really is just a matter of taste. Technical skill does exist in sexual adult content. I can't stress enough that skilled artists work on stupid shit.

The homogenisation and consolidation of buisinesses and brands has led to the erosion of the midlist, the indie movie or band or comic. There's a real sense of "I'll only try media that's already popular / famous," and I'm begging you to look for the weird shit, the experimental, the niche.

Never forget that Norman Rockwell, debatably the most famous American artist to ever put brush to canvas, was not afraid to show the ugliness along with the good. Having his work/reputation sanitized and trimmed into marketable nostalgia is about American as it gets.

Really wish people learned to deal with the weird little thoughts in their heads and built trust that the things their brain conjures up and chooses to respond to does not reflect their morality. Your actions do. That's all this puritanical shit is. People scared of their own thoughts and feelings.

I strongly recommend you do the same and post about it to inspire others. We are a bigger group of people than you might think. The effects of the growing boycott are already visible and if we can make an example of DISNEY of all companies there is some hope.

While I don’t and shouldn’t expect it but it’s nice to see artist friends and the online community take interest in and draw my OC while supporting me to push forward in my art/anim, be it on good or bad days. Couldn’t be more grateful! 💕🙏🏼
