This week, I taught Hempel's d-n model in my philosophy of history course. And each time I come back to that text, I think I become more sympathetic to his point. I'm not sure which of my assumptions is shaken, but the model seems much more attractive now than when I first read about it years ago.

Peer review is genuinely not a fraud detection mechanism and shouldn't be taken to be. It's not really a knock against a peer review system for failing to pick up when data is faked. The system is already over worked if we did data forensics at scale as a standard part of review it grinds to a halt.

This week our methodological seminar is specifically about writing. (I dedicate the whole semester to getting them to write a single-page essay well, as we discuss different approaches to philsci, sts, hps etc.) So what would be your top recommendation, tip, or resource on academic writing?
