The work of Leon J. Goldstein is currently not much in vogue in the philosophy of history. While he and his (rather unorthodox) antirealism are sometimes mentioned in the ongoing discussion on realism, his distinct (metaphilosophical) approach to the philosophy of history is hardly discussed. Yesterday, we held the workshop "Pragmatist Philosophy of History" with Jouni-Matti Kuukkanen. It was a lively discussion of the main issues of his forthcoming book "Doing, Knowing and Getting it Right". Look out for the book and a planned publication based on the workshop.

Below part II of my text on historiographic morality. In this part, I discuss the relationship between historiography's epistemic goals and moral judgments and some specific arguments of William Dray and Isaiah Berlin concerning the necessity of moral judgments in historiography.

In our dark and demented times, questions about the relationship of historiography and politics come to the fore again. The renowned feminist historian Joan W. So, I wrote about the relationship of historiography and morality. In short, I think we need more conceptual clarity when we speak about issues of historiographic morality. Also, many of the issues raised in this respect have a substantially empirical component about which we miss data.
