A Nissan Sentra weighs a little more than 3,000 pounds (I picked a small, common car) An Aventon Level 3 E-bike weighs 67 pounds (plus rider weight) These things do not pose remotely the same risk when traveling at 28 mph. I am begging people to understand basic physics.

Bike lanes do take space away from drivers. Why not get rid of sidewalks too, hell school zones really slow drivers down..get rid of schools! While we're at it i'm kind of tired of those pesky residential areas with their people and stop signs - no more homes! Nothing but roads and parking lots.

I don't think we should ban cars but nobody makes a more compelling case for it than drivers who argue that it is unreasonable to expect drivers not to kill people.

We need more housing in Boston, but that’s a narrow view. We need more actual “Places To Live”. Places to meet, eat, recreate, and enrich our lives. Building only housing without markets, shops, access to parkland, and gathering spaces simply checks a box rather than building up the urban fabric.

The United States does not care about the lives of children. Whether it’s being shot in schools, run over on our roads, or having their healthcare ripped away, our children are dying because we defend the status quo. There is a better way, but we’re too cowardly do do anything about it. 😔

I’m sharing this because gatekeeping in the cycling community has to stop. If our collective goal is to get people out of cars, we cannot attack the exact tools that make a car-light lifestyle possible. E-cargo bikes eliminate excuses. Let people use the tool that works best for them.

The e-bike I ride to work is just as capable of being absolutely obliterated by a driver distracted by their phone as my carbon race bike is. E-bikes aren’t the problem… Drivers who kill cyclists and pedestrians are.
