🌶️ Lipids bring the heat 🔥 Lipids don’t just shape membranes, they influence cellular metabolism. We show that tuning lipidome composition strongly alters metabolic heat flow in the minimal cell JCVI-Syn3B 🦠 Fantastic collaboration with Karim Fahmy’s lab (HZDR) 🎉

Out today in
@nature.com
: Together with the Honigmann, Shevchenko, Drobot and Hof labs, we present a general workflow for imaging the localization and transport of individual lipids in cells and mapping their metabolism.

🧬 Thrilled to share that our work is featured on the cover of
@natnano.nature.com
(May issue)! We genetically encoded RNA origami that self-assembles into cytoskeletal nanotubes inside synthetic cells. 📄 Paper:

Why are biological membranes asymmetric, with different lipids in the two bilayer leaflets? Discovered in the 70s, lipid asymmetry is linked to many cellular processes, but why the cell needs it is largely unclear.
