This'll mean nothing to most of you but for the first time ever I have completed a combo trial with a charge character (Parasoul) in its entirety, and even learned a little about how to play them. It's a new era for me (I am putting off work bc there's so much that I don't know where to start 🫠)

I like when video game trailers burn two minutes on dialogue and setup. buddy the first thing that's gonna stop me from trying your game is "does it have interminable cut scenes with terrible dialogue that sounds like it was written in junior high" and guess what you put right up front

Confession: I am basically compelled at all times to have a microfiber cloth on me to wipe down my screens—front phone screen, folding phone screen, laptop, CRT TV, etc.—any chance I get. MacBook Air is especially bad about getting screen smudges from the keyboard. It does it to mock me, I think.

Recording today on Fighters Megamix—one of the first games I ever had! Better than its rep as a "marketing stunt." Super unpopular opinion I know, but I'd replay it over VF 2 (given only those two options) any day. Good mechanics. Burnin' music. Long live the Saturn. Candy/Kid Sarah my beloveds.

The folks at SMG were exceedingly kind/generous enough to let me write something! Writing in this sort of voice and in this size of a piece is really tough for me, as I've only done sprawling word vom- I mean, long personal essays. I thought it turned out reasonably okay! Check out their site too!

One of the first games we covered on the show! I love games like this: contemplative, deliberately paced, simple prose and a simple premise both of which have plenty to mine underneath. Also, it's a beautiful game to just exist in. Highly highly recommend if you haven't played yet!

Under Night's music is outrageous (complimentary) and the themes of the two that I actually play a lot of (Linne and Mika) are filthy (complimentary-er)

These ingrained language rules always amaze me. Another one that native English speakers know (and is a term I had to look up, lol) is ablaut reduplication. Zig-zag not zag-zig, handy-dandy and not dandy-handy, etc. Now if only knowing this stuff could make me talk good on mic...

In an effort to write more on the show I put up a Patreon poll (for paid + free members!) to see what folks want to hear about. The poll winner is one that I don't hear a lot of "serious" discussion around; I've been wanting to try my hand at doing exactly that. Can't wait to revisit Stellar Blade!

I'm playing 1000xRESIST for the third time to prepare for a few upcoming projects. I'm reminded all over again how exciting and impactful interdisciplinary works can be. It's theatrical (appropriately, lol), it's operatic, it's raw, it's a smidge goofy (perfect amount). Just super good.

A game that completely surprised me and became an all-time favorite. A game that appealed to both the musician and fighting game fan in me with a "your only competition is yourself" approach to technique. A game with an incredible amount of heart. If you haven't played Celeste yet...get to it!
