Looks like we landed one of the bigger targets. My favorite of the OL targets. And that’s a big position of need for Miami this off season.

Miami has to find ways to capitalize on an overheated OL market. Having a vision for a position switch is one way to potentially take advantage of price dislocation. They did that with Connor Williams in 2022. Getting in on older players is another way, like they did Calais Campbell.

Miami had one of their best FA off seasons in decades finding mid-level and low-level deals, e.g. Aaron Brewer, Jordyn Brooks, Jonnu Smith, Calais Campbell, Kendall Fuller. Were they a bit lucky? I think so. But it's clear they're going to attempt to repeat that.

NFL Salary Cap rose by an incredible 24% in just two years. And the amount of money being thrown around in free agency is pretty much where the rubber meets the road on those increases. The numbers look mad.

Ben Johnson had that herculean offensive line in Detroit, and between the Joe Thuney acquisition and the Drew Dalman signing it's pretty clear that's where his priorities are in Chicago. Such an interesting juxtaposition with Miami's priorities under Mike McDaniel.

Mind you, I love the idea of adding Dre Greenlaw in Miami. But when you consider their rumored interest in him, the rumored interest in Joey Bosa per Dianna Russini, and some others not necessarily public, I don't think they've learned anything about managing injury risks on their roster.

Don’t sleep on Kader Kohou. Came from a college I didn’t even know played football, had to learn 3 NFL defenses in his first 3 seasons, but everyone expects that to go smoothly. All 3 coordinators (including Fangio) loved him, and by the end of 2024 he was playing fantastic ball.

I believe Miami's focus will probably be on 5 or 6 players, knowing one or more will available at 13: DL Shemar Stewart DT Walter Nolen DT Kenneth Grant S Malaki Starks WR Tetairoa McMillan Lots of reasons in favor of them, but even more reasons AGAINST some of the alternatives. Let's discuss.

I mention Miami's lack of run diversity. This is measurable. They rank 29th in % of runs between the tackles, and they rank 24th in absolute man-zone balance. Put them together and they rank 30th in run diversity. Which is probably why they're the most prone to getting hit with zero/lost yardage.

When the league zags, you've got to zig. Heading into 2022 the book on the Dolphins was there's no deep passing game, even with Jaylen Waddle. Remember everyone said that trading for Tyreek Hill would be a total waste because Tua can't throw deep? So defenses didn't play a bunch of shell coverage.

Would be odd for Darrell Bevell to reunite with the Head Coach who fired him but a promotion is a promotion, so who knows. Guessing Chandler Henley would get promoted to QB Coach and I wonder if McDaniel would try and hire Bobby Slowik as a passing game coordinator.

This is embarrassing safety work here. Even if there was a miscommunication over whether Ramsey should maintain man coverage, which appears to be the issue, you turn around to start yelling at Ramsey DURING THE PLAY??? That’s pee wee ball stuff.

That’s honestly the first time I’ve thought about the hip drop tackle rule the entire season. Which is funny because for a while we were all hand wringing over it so much.

On this second drive, Miami doing a good job giving the Texans defenders something else to think about other than the QB. That will be the key to doing anything offensively in this game, because today’s OL is comfortably the worst staffed OL in the NFL, even with Aaron Brewer.

Conservative decision by HC Demeco Ryans belies a lot about their defensive strategy today, and their estimation of Miami’s abilities with such a poor OL. They feel like they’re going to win the war of attrition, so no need to be chancy on 4th down.

Miami playing without their top three tackles Terron Armstead, Austin Jackson, and Kendall Lamm today. This is the OL that Chris Grier built. Everyone could see these injuries coming. There’s no excuse. Every single one of those players has established himself as injury prone.

Tyler Huntley as Miami’s official QB2 for the remainder of the season, able to come in and out of the game without restriction? This should be a no brainer.

FWIW, OBJ signed a 1-year $3M deal that was worth up to $8.25M in incentives I do not think he hit those incentives

Odell Beckham turned out to be a terrible free agent signing. There’s a danger in signing older players who are available for a reason. It happens. Give Miami some credit for playing hard ball on the contract so as to minimize the financial consequences, but it was still misguided.

Collectively Will McDonald, Haason Reddick, and Quinnen Williams had averaged a 14.3% pressure rate per rush heading into yesterday. The trio combined for a 5.0% pressure rate vs Miami. Remarkable considering Tua dropped back 48 times and Miami gave up even trying to run the ball in the 2nd half.

Only the 5th game in the NFL this season where neither team punted in the 1st half, according to Kevin Harlan.

Tua Tagovailoa is 15 of 18 and 2 of those incomplete passes hit his target’s hands, and the 3rd was a spike. We absolutely take this man for granted.

Good explanation and camera angle showing why Anthony Walker Jr. dropped off coverage of the RB in the end zone. Walker pushed the RB out of bounds once he saw Rodgers break the pocket, which is legal, and once the RB went out of bounds he’s no longer a legal receiving target. Savvy play by Walker.

De’Von Achane has scored 12 TDs from inside the 10 since he’s been in the league (most of them run plays) so I’m a lot more forgiving than a lot of people about his being involved in goal line. That series looked to me like McDaniel is working on some McVay stuff in tight red.

That may be the weakest Pass Interference call I’ve ever seen and that’s saying something.

Dolphins are the worst short yardage (3rd & 1 or 4th & 1) offense in the NFL from 2022 to 2024. What I find most perplexing about it is the fact that the LA Rams are the best over the same period. Sean McVay and Mike McDaniel are both Shanahan disciples.

For the broad NFL, 3rd year players dominate and the drop-off in snaps share starts around the 8th year. Miami leads the NFL in snaps share for 8th+ year veterans. You can see just how much work they have to do in the off season. They're only gonna get a year older, not a year better.

About 37% of NFL’s defensive snaps go to players in their 2nd to 4th years. Miami has less than half (17%) of those young-but-experienced snaps. Nearly a third (32%) of Miami’s defensive snaps are players in 9th season or more. For the NFL, that figure is much smaller (13%).
