It's very telling that we have politicians all over the world calling decent human beings for "radicals" now. We are apparently extremely dangerous people, because we want peace, justice, a better life for all and basic human decency from our leaders. Doesn't bode well at all, does it?

(from Philip Larkin’s ‘Reference Back’) “We’re not suited to the long perspectives Open at each instant of our lives. They link us to our losses: worse, They show us what we have as it once was, Blindingly undiminished, just as though By acting differently we could have kept it so.”

(from Yeats’s ‘Adam’s Curse’) “We sat grown quiet at the name of love; We saw the last embers of daylight die, And in the trembling blue-green of the sky A moon, worn as if it had been a shell Washed by time’s waters as they rose and fell About the stars and broke in days and years.”

This is a disastrous move. RTE's documentary-makers in both radio and TV are held in very high esteem all over the globe, and to shutter the in-house TV unit is as stupid as it is short-sighted.
