At a station, a woman places one foot into the train and leaves her other foot on the platform. She is not sure about things. She asks us if the train is stopping where she is going. It is. Time to commit. Her second foot enters the train. The doors close.

A little girl on the train strokes a toy seal, and I can tell it’s her spirit animal and when we are not here they have very deep conversations that we would struggle to even comprehend let alone keep up with. Or maybe that’s not true and I just hope so.

A baby on the bus says: Ba, ba, um-ba, um-ba-ba. She understands with that deep instinctive part of herself that words are something she needs to learn.

A woman walks ahead of me. She is tall and broad. Her red dreadlocks fall to her hips. She carries a tiny bag in the shape of a cupcake.

Man at the train station: What do you say man, shall we run up the stairs, get some exercise, show the world who’s boss? His friend (stepping on to the escalator): No.

A man sleeps on the tube. His hair is voluminous and dark, his coat green and his jumper orange. His expression is peaceful. A woman sits down beside him. She wears riffs on camel and tan. She moves around on the seat as if it is far from satisfactory.

Man on the Tube: If we formed a band what would it be called? Woman: Jealous Tuesday.

I am just about to stop a man walking down the road to ask him about the incredible costume worn by the baby he is carrying, and then I realise that he is holding a Philodendron wrapped in a coat.

Teenager on train: I'm not a feminist. Mum: Do you want to own things and decide who you sleep with? Teen: Yeah. Mum: You're a feminist.

I compliment the fabulous ears of a man’s dog, as we wait in a queue at a street food market. Man: Yes. They’re especially good for rolling in mud.

Woman on this train just said, "I do have an opinion, but I just...I can't be bothered to say it," which is a mood if I ever heard one

A crow waddles through a large puddle in Hollow Ponds, its legs only halfway under the water. Fooled, I walk across the puddle, but at a deep part and my boots sink in up to my ankles. The crow tilts its head. You silly creature, it thinks, know you not, how puddles are?
