Some early analysis of the major rainfall and flooding in southwest Colorado this weekend in this blog post. It was one of the largest fall rainstorms ever to hit the region, and resulted in major flooding on the San Juan River in Pagosa Springs and on Vallecito Creek, among other locations. #cowx

Highly unusual situation approaching western Colorado with the moisture from Hurricane Priscilla. Grand Junction has never had precipitable water over an inch (25mm) so late in the year, but looks like it will be near that level on both Fri & Sat. Six standard deviations above average! #cowx 1/2

The #LeeFire is now the 2nd largest #wildfire in the US, just ~5,200 acres shy of CO's 3 largest in recorded history at 133,841 acres (+72,865 vs last wk) An incredible job by firefighters holding the S end, significantly slowing growth in extreme drought conditions (ERCs in 99.9th percentile!)

Some outlandish rainfall totals with the 2nd round of extreme precipitation ongoing in Central Texas. A rain gauge 8 miles SSW of #Bertram, TX reported 13.86" of rainfall in just a 5h period (110am-610am CDT). Widespread >10" totals in 6h where a Flash #Flood Emergency remains in effect. #TXwx

Over the five-week NOAA Hazardous Weather Testbed Spring Forecasting Experiment, GSL's MPAS_RRFSA was the highest-rated of all of the deterministic "flagship" models, besting even the HRRR -- which led that evaluation every year since 2016 until this year. I'm excited about where we'll be next year.
