If you’re like me and Winter Olympics snuck up on you (because it’s a stinking humid summer), it’s started and the curling mixed doubles is on and it’s excellent.

Incase you don’t know, Westminster dog show is on this week. Earlier today (Saturday US) they had all the preliminaries. On Monday and Tuesday the proper competitions will start. It’s all live streamed on YouTube and I HIGHLY recommend watching the dog agility. It’s impressive and super fun.

I wrote an internal update post at work today and it was good and it was me and it got praise from so many people. I like to write.

One of those Auckland “summer” days. Bernard has chosen to try steal as much heat as possible.

At an airport gate once, age 17, I had to phone a friend and tell them about a mutual friends death. A woman came up to me afterwards and said "no one your age should have to do that. I'm going to make sure the flight attendants look after you. Do you want a hug first?"

I was driving past ikea right on opening on Saturday so I popped in. Grabbed a fry pan that was recommended (Hemkomst) and hot damn friends. Used it the last two nights and it’s an absolute dream. So non stick. Such a good weight. Soon as the other two sizes are back in stock I’m grabbing the set.

Oh my gosh this would be such a win for everyone. People need downtime. It even makes them better workers.

Biscotti and Christmas spice cookies because I couldn’t stop thinking about everyone’s cookie batches! Bonus is that I baked all these in the little convection oven which, while being a faff from needing to do tiny batches, meant the house didn’t heat up massively.

Something that really irks me with baking is when it says “the zest of one lemon” It’s so non specific. How big a lemon? Are we zesting every square millimetre of that bad boy, or just like, casually zesting most of it? Or just some? Just tell me in tsp measurements how much zest you want pls.

We ate like kings and we will do so again for days to come ❤️💚❤️💚❤️💚 (Including the photos of the extra spuds and stuffing, because people worried about the imbalance when they only saw the first photo)

Our yard is basically surrounded by retaining walls. Turns out this is baby bird kryptonite and every time I go outside a new species of baby bird is having a rest in the grass until it has enough strength to fly out of our yard. So far today - a thrush and a sparrow.

I woke up early today and thought “why hasn’t my alarm gone off? Oh! It’s Saturday!” And went back to sleep. It is not Saturday. That was an extremely disappointing alarm that woke me 10 mins later.

Some friends organised zoom baking sessions. Every weekend a different elaborate bread baked together. Jumped on zoom for each step so we could ask advice and share tips. “Is this bouncing back after being pressed? Under proved?” We did bagels, iced buns, focaccia, pretzels… so much fun
