If you’re like me and Winter Olympics snuck up on you (because it’s a stinking humid summer), it’s started and the curling mixed doubles is on and it’s excellent.

Incase you don’t know, Westminster dog show is on this week. Earlier today (Saturday US) they had all the preliminaries. On Monday and Tuesday the proper competitions will start. It’s all live streamed on YouTube and I HIGHLY recommend watching the dog agility. It’s impressive and super fun.

Treat yourself and pick up one of these bad boys on a hot summer day. Not always a fan of the novelty fruju flavour but they knocked it out of the park this year.

I wrote an internal update post at work today and it was good and it was me and it got praise from so many people. I like to write.

One of those Auckland “summer” days. Bernard has chosen to try steal as much heat as possible.

At an airport gate once, age 17, I had to phone a friend and tell them about a mutual friends death. A woman came up to me afterwards and said "no one your age should have to do that. I'm going to make sure the flight attendants look after you. Do you want a hug first?"

I was driving past ikea right on opening on Saturday so I popped in. Grabbed a fry pan that was recommended (Hemkomst) and hot damn friends. Used it the last two nights and it’s an absolute dream. So non stick. Such a good weight. Soon as the other two sizes are back in stock I’m grabbing the set.

Oh my gosh this would be such a win for everyone. People need downtime. It even makes them better workers.

Biscotti and Christmas spice cookies because I couldn’t stop thinking about everyone’s cookie batches! Bonus is that I baked all these in the little convection oven which, while being a faff from needing to do tiny batches, meant the house didn’t heat up massively.

Something that really irks me with baking is when it says “the zest of one lemon” It’s so non specific. How big a lemon? Are we zesting every square millimetre of that bad boy, or just like, casually zesting most of it? Or just some? Just tell me in tsp measurements how much zest you want pls.

We ate like kings and we will do so again for days to come ❤️💚❤️💚❤️💚 (Including the photos of the extra spuds and stuffing, because people worried about the imbalance when they only saw the first photo)

Our yard is basically surrounded by retaining walls. Turns out this is baby bird kryptonite and every time I go outside a new species of baby bird is having a rest in the grass until it has enough strength to fly out of our yard. So far today - a thrush and a sparrow.

Very few things can push notify me and while this occasionally means I miss last minute plans, it has overall been a massive improvement. I’m likely rolling this out in a few more places over the holidays.

I went through IKEA today. Touched a lot of fabrics IRL so I now know which ones I like. Sat on a bunch of furniture and now I know which ones I don’t like. Grabbed a couple of little things but mostly just research for some future shopping.

I woke up early today and thought “why hasn’t my alarm gone off? Oh! It’s Saturday!” And went back to sleep. It is not Saturday. That was an extremely disappointing alarm that woke me 10 mins later.

Some friends organised zoom baking sessions. Every weekend a different elaborate bread baked together. Jumped on zoom for each step so we could ask advice and share tips. “Is this bouncing back after being pressed? Under proved?” We did bagels, iced buns, focaccia, pretzels… so much fun

Really happy to see feral cats put on the predator free 2050 list. As much as I adore cats, feral cats are a huge problem and we need to deal with them.

I got my 10th Covid booster yesterday and the pharmacist said I’m the only young patient she knows who’s kept up to date with vaccines. Just a friendly reminder that anyone over 30 can get boosted every 6 months in NZ. Every bit helps!
