Choose 1. No “porque no Los dos” here just for a thought experiment: Half-Life: Alyx runs well in standalone fully immersive VR. Half-Life 3 runs flat in a black void at solid flat mode frame rates on a virtual screen you can place anywhere.

Apple and Valve both made the right trade off in moving battery weight into places where you cannot feel it on your head, and eye tracking into places where it should “just work” for the intended purpose.

$100 battery & water bottle sling solves all standalone VR headset battery anxiety without added head weight for any standalone VR headset. I’ve used a setup like this with 5 different high output batteries and slings of all shapes and sizes. Wearing a lot of battery is fine, just not on head.

All of these are missing the elephant in the room. The Steam Frame is a Linux device. Whatever it does, it does in the most open software environment in the world. The whole existence of SteamOS VR gives hardware developers a very open platform to build devices for.

There’s a case to be made that the MX Ink and Muse are better spatial controllers than Touch. They charge while in use and can be carried in pocket.

Working inside Vision Pro today with PSVR 2 controller, Muse pen, AirPods, MacBook, mouse, water, and coffee all on my mobile desk. Dual-knit band on my head. A Walkabout room is available on ALVR streaming in about 15 seconds. My off-hand controller is charging.

There’s a Quest 3S in a bag with Laser Dance, Waltz of the Wizard, Cubism, and Steam Link with an Xbox controller ready to log into a local Steam Deck. The Vision Pro is playing Beat Saber and recording 4K videos on my PC while inside Walkabout Mini Golf using a USB-C to Ethernet wired connection.

Couldn’t log into Walkabout Mini Golf with my Apple Vision Pro and PlayStation VR2 controllers. Oops, I had unplugged the Ethernet from my headset.

The tighter I wind the Galaxy XR, the wider my field of view and the more immersed I feel as the lenses get closer to my eyes. The only problem? It becomes a blood pressure test for my head and produces a headache in roughly 60 seconds.

Pickle Pro is already the game I've spent the most time playing in VisionOS. It's excellent mixed reality and gets your heart pumping!
