If Arlington and Alexandria are going anywhere, it should be with Fairfax and Loudoun to form our own state - North Virginia. That, with DC statehood and Puerto Rico, would give our flag 53 stars and as many as 6 additional Democrat Senators.

Evidence #258 why districts would be horrible for Arlington as we reevaluate our county form of government. Districts always lead to parochial fiefdoms that fiercely resist changes and let the rest of the city decay around them.

Unironically we need to reclaim the historical sense of liberalism as a radical ideology, not the squishy sensibility that it denotes to most people today.

One way I celebrated my birthday yesterday was to wear the first pair of Allbirds I ever bought for the very last time. They'd been my daily sneakers for almost two years, and the soles were ~done~. So they have now transcended to their AI heaven, to be reincarnated as GPU processing cycles.

In many cases, state legislature would be a fine job for somebody who should step down from Congress due to old age but is still healthy and wants to stay active in politics. The stakes are lower, the job's much lighter, and their experience may well be useful.

Virginia state legislature is a part-time job. They meet 30-45 days in odd years and 60 days in even years. Vacancies in the state senate can also be filled immediately by appointment. None of which is true of the US House, a job I would have no problem saying Lucas should not run for at age 82.
