Prof. of Psychiatry @UniWürzburg, views are my own. Music, books, soccer. Keep calm and hike on
Can we boost 🚀 psychotherapy effects with rTMS 🧲 in schizophrenia? Yes, we can:
rdcu.be/eNM8h
Combined treatment increased social functioning at the end of treatment - even persisting at 6 months follow-up. This encouraging finding will stimulate work optimizing the protocols.

How does the🧠create psychomotor abnormalities? Our recent article in
@pnas.org
offers some insight. Specific areas within the primary motor cortex seem to be altered in psychomotor slowing and linked to motor behaviors. These areas might become new treatment targets

New paper alert: Here we demonstrate a specific communication deficit in psychosis related to hand gestures. Further, gesture impairments seem to depend on the specific symptom profile of individuals related to negative symptoms or formal thought disorder.

some weeks ago, we published this beauty:

A simple behavioral test shows that patients with paranoia prefer larger interpersonal space. The new dataset replicates our 2016 finding, but now linked this also to dysfunctional stress regulation and poor outcome in 6 months.

Aberrant personal space is associated with paranoia, altered stress regulation, and unfavourable outcomes at 6 months’ follow-up in schizophrenia

The other place is now truly dreadful. So, let's try this bluesky again - back after one year. In the meantime, I started a new job. Working in Germany again after 20 years in Switzerland.

Nach einer unbeschwerten und pünklichen DB Reise von Ulm nach Bochum gestern, habe ich heute leider kein Bahnglück 😑. Die meisten Züge Richtung Schweiz fallen aus. In 20 Stunden soll meine Vorlesung in Bern starten. Schaffen wir das?

Proud moment: My team published a new paper on neural correlates of psychomotor disturbance in depression. Less movement = thalamocortical connectivity increased; more movement = higher pallidocortical connectivity. Data came from Marburg-Münster Affective Disorders cohort
