Also, Jon Stewart and others are so susceptible to this kind of narrative by being credulous about any “guvmint bad” argument & failing to examine it closely. Stewart’s bending over backwards to be fair to bad-faith conservative critiques can make him Bill Maher Lite.

It seems to be a ubiquitous republican tactic: to make any public-good legislation they can’t stop outright more bureaucratic and burdensome, so they can point and say “government sucks!” Means-testing, making bizarre limitations on food stamps, etc.

About 2/3 of the remaining NSC staff were just fired-- at 4.20pm on the Friday before Memorial Day weekend. The (already overworked) staff was slashed from 300 to about 150 in January, now down to about 50. To coordinate US NatSec policy for the entire world. That's OK. Trump is his own expert.
