something i keep thinking about re: #bskycensorship is how rapidly it'll devolve into heavily gendered and racialized biases. who is the aggressor at first glance? who is the passive victim? what factors influence how an audience perceives these roles in artistic depictions of sex and kink?

I just keep thinking about fandoms I've been in where you can run into more or less the exact same material vis a vis abuse/noncon/CSA/etc where the person who *doesn't* tag the relationship is seen as obviously being "critical" while the person who does must be "shipping a problematic ship"

if youre mad cuz you see a nsfw artist not tagging/labeling their shit? then i hope youre also getting mad at your friends who stalk creators and slide in people's DMs to "warn" them that someone draws [insert subject matter you think is icky] cuz their behavior is contributing to the problem

If you have two people making the exact same kind of content and the person who tags it thoroughly gets attacked and targeted and the person who doesn't slips under the radar or is given the benefit of the doubt then that just disincentivizes tagging in the first place

this sort of thing also tells me that the people who are the loudest about harassing artists and writers are also not muting terms the way they say they do. because it’s not actually about avoiding content for them, it’s an addiction to outrage

It's watching the reaction that Taylor would get on his erotica that convinced me of this phenomenon: tag a piece as dubcon and people are upset, don't tag the same piece as dubcon, many of those same people will interpret it in a way that they find palatable and it's ok. It's not black and white.

i'm reminded of this whenever i see people upset about nobody properly tagging. when we do properly tag, you get upset anyway because you saw the tag. but if we don't tag, you apparently don't even recognize it as upsetting. this is why you can't police consent in art.
