This third iteration of the legendary Velvet Fig, which was matured exclusively in six first-fill Sherry casks filled in 2012, underwent a five-month marrying period in Sherry-seasoned oak, which is said to have imparted a richer, more velvety flavour profile.

…matured in exceptional American oak ex-Bourbon barrels where the spirit has gently married with the oak for 25 years. That quarter-century has now passed with the years allowing these exceptional flavours to develop.

I’ve really been looking forward to this one. I always used to love pouring a drop of Ardmore’s old Traditional Cask into a glass that previously held Laphroaig 10 Year Old. Pure dramming harmony! Looking forward to seeing if and how the Laphroaig cask has influenced this one.

Staoisha is the name given to Bunnahabhain’s heavily peated whisky. Named after a nearby loch, it offers a striking contrast to the distillery’s signature unpeated style.
