I think a lot of gamedevs underestimate the value of "that's so fucking cool, I wanna be that" in their games seeing a cool dark mage or a knight or even just looking at the trainer classes in Pokemon for example I think letting players unlock classes/outfits of cool NPCs is super slept on

Wasn't satisfied with existing focus stacking tools for opaque samples, so I developed my own. Once I polish up the algorithm some more it'll be added to FieldWeave so 5x and 10x objectives can be used for sample imaging. #dendrochronology #treecore #machinevision

Took my first gigapixel photo! Only took 2.5 hours and 899 photos to make it. It's a spruce tree cross section that is ~58mm in diameter. I'm still working on the best way to stitch the images, so there's a few visible seams. #gigapixel #photography

Hmmm yes, File Explorer. Clearly the best way to view gigapixel images. On a side note, I'm having trouble actually stitching these. Turns out Fiji can't handle stitching images with more than 2 billion pixels.

Figured i should post an update on my tree core scanner project again. I renamed it from Forge to FieldWeave and added focus stacking and area scanning. Currently training a ML model for core surface detection for more accurate alignment and focus.

I was experimenting with using a microscope lens on Forge again, and made this image of a Basswood stem ~2.5mm in diameter consisting of 257 pictures all focus stacked then stitched together. I'm still working on getting this to be automated. #microscopy #softwaredev

Got some cheap linear rails to upgrade Forge again, but they make this awful grinding sound. I'm gonna try cleaning them with IPA. If that doesn't work then I'll likely either have to get new ball bearings or new carriages.

OK, I haven't considered that some of the arguments I find myself in these days are coming from people who still think solar energy and battery storage are expensive. Already the LCOE from solar+storage is cheaper than anything else. Seemed like the obvious outcome to me since the sun is free.

i bought a 30 watt solar panel that can charge a tablet in cloudy conditions then fold up into a laptop bag. for 50 bucks. solar is cheap and powerful.
