I just wanna shit talk the Leafs in peace.
Gare Joyce wrote a book about his experiences sitting in on the Blue Jackets preparing for the 2006 Draft. The questions were just as stupid back then.

I would love to know the sequence of events between the Olympic break and Treliving leaving a month after the deadline, because not firing Berube at the break, not ensuring Cowan was AHL eligible during the Olympic break and this trade deadline fuck-up we’re all IMO fireable offences.

Far be it from me to speak on behalf of Leafs fan but I’ll gladly take a bunch of Mitch Marner retcon nonsense instead of Carter Hart redemption stories.

Montreal can enjoy their place amongst the prestigious group of plucky underdogs that got shit kicked in the third round and then got absolutely nowhere near as far again, like the 2017 Senators and the 2021 Islanders.

Really hope everyone on Robidas Island is ok. We’re behind you. This is why we have to be aware of some of the people we let into our hockey team.

Hockey will only be a big sport when people stop needing to use The Leafs to get eyes on their story.

Whether the Leafs are bad or miraculously good again, just let them play hockey that’s fun to watch. Existential dread about never winning in the first round aside, it’s not up for debate that the late 2010s strategy of “whee!” made for entertaining hockey

You have an AI pilled executive being influenced by the former team face puncher because the analytics quack GM used to be the GM of his son and that son is currently on the face punchers former team. Auston Matthews trade, when?

Doubting Steve Simmons isn’t mutually exclusive from doubting John Chayka. You don’t have to buy Simmons’ story to doubt whether Chayka is gonna be any good at this and thinking Simmons is full of shit as usual doesn’t exonerate Chayka from the weirdness of this hire.

The best case scenario is that a guy who left the league in disgrace SIX years ago is up to the job and threads the needle of a team in disarray that needs to rebuild without any draft capital, while employing a coach that actively makes them worse.

One or way another I don’t have a vested interest in Mitch Marner winning a cup with Vegas but if he does I sincerely hope he is a petty bitch about it. Toronto deserves its collection of guys they rode out of town only to see them win at their next stop.

Implement promotion and relegation in hockey so that the Maple Leafs can just fade away and become a third-tier nobody and everyone just goes “hey remember the Toronto Maple Leafs?” Hockey’s an intensely stupid sport but kudos to the Leafs to finding that next level of stupid.

At this point Kash Patel is so recklessly incompetent and has made enough friends in hockey on his world’s saddest Make-A-Wish tour, that as long as he doesn’t end up in prison Bettman will probably give him a job at Department of Player Safety

If a network holds a sport’s broadcast rights but doesn’t have a way for you to watch games on-demand, they shouldn’t be able to get a video taken down from YouTube or any other site.

for me, the legacy of the Treliving era is that a large portion of Leafs fans got exactly what they wanted after Dubas. They got their GM, their coach, their players and here we are

Not to relitigate, but just an absolutely insane sequence of events where Dubas was ready to move off “we can and we will” and trade Marner, Shanahan said no, Dubas played an “it’s me or him” card, the Leafs chose Shanny, and then all three of them were gone within 15 months.

Literally every answer is “oh yeah we knew that obvious catastrophe was going to happen but that’s okay because we’re the greatest”, and nobody in the media has taken the time to say “What the FUCK are you talking about?” out loud.

Not to make excuses but it’s kinda worth a mention that anytime a Maple Leaf goes looking for retribution for bullshit like that Gudas hit, they get rocked with the largest suspension the league has handed out in years.

Berube and Treliving should have been fired a month ago before the Olympic break, but at this point the Leafs’ goal should be to grind as hard as they can to mitigate the draft pick they hand to Boston this summer. Then bring in a new GM and coach to mini-tank for a high 2027 pick.

Not firing Berube (and Tre for that matter) as soon as the Olympic break started and using the month of February to get people in place to set your new franchise direction is inexcusable.

Just to crunch some numbers on this. Of the Leafs last 20 games before the break, Cowan played in all of the first 16, mostly playing around 10-11 minutes. He played 9:44 in Seattle then didn’t play the rest of the road trip. 9:44 of NHL time in a month instead of 8 games in the AHL. Awful.

Enough of this half pregnant shit. Own your opinions or fuck off. Either own that you have the self-awareness of a fly and accept that people are furious at you, and stop pretending you don’t know why. OR Accept that life exists outside of your hockey bubble and act accordingly.
