Treasure Island, 1940 GGIE (Golden Gate International Exposition) had transportation called the Elephant Train, this fellow on a real elephant tried to get you to ride it. (no the train wasn't pulled by a real elephant, yes, the trains later went to the SF Zoo) #sfhistory #sfmemory

West Portal, 1964 I mostly focus on place, but with some of these family slides I've acquired, the location becomes secondary. At this child's birthday party on Dewey Avenue, the place doesn't quite matter, it's a knothole into a time in San Francisco, possibly anywhere. #sfhistory

The National Park Service took over Alcatraz in 1972 and left a lot from the Occupation of Alcatraz a few years earlier, one thing they did though was knock down the buildings on the parade ground where the Native Americans had lived. (I learned this from John Martini, go see him on Thursday)
