This mid-afternoon Alex Pretti vigil at the Portland VA was not heavily promoted. But the crowd probably stretches a quarter mile or more. Americans are galvanized and grieving.

Trump’s Spending Bill means fewer people will have food on their table – by design. He's forcing states like Illinois to create more bureaucracy for families to get the help they need. All this to support tax breaks for the rich.

Why not deport the people serving time after they've served their time? Why does Trump want to let criminals out of jail early? That's why due process covers non-citizens visiting the US. So we don't set up a system where people come and commit crimes then get sent home with no consequences.

No one’s shocked the Trump Administration isn't pursuing a civil rights investigation into the killing of Alex Pretti. But everyone should be deeply disturbed. There is no lie they won't tell to evade accountability. Congress must force our watchdogs to hold independent investigations immediately.
