despite pithy "remakes don't replace the original, they're not going to take it away from you" posts going viral every time a big remake gets announced, its obvious most gamers will never visit the original, and many reviewers write about remakes as if the originals are an obsolete technology

There's a lot of misinfo about Ocarina of Time being spread in the advent of the remake. People like to read 1 or 2 snippets instead of studying the topics broadly, giving them a very narrow view. I wrote the first segment to accompany an older list of mine, hopefully it makes things more clear.

Spyro skyboxes feel like a collective hallucination

It's endlessly fascinating to watch commentary on 10/10 review scores. IGN gave 0 games 10s for 225 days, but then there were three (of completely incomparable genres) in the span of a month, none of which was a critical outlier. Suddenly, uninformed people claim IGN is handing 10s out like candy.

Don't choose the swords either, honestly. The game's excessive knockback makes getting that close to enemies a fool's errand. I was really frustrated for about an hour until I started the game over and grabbed the mace.

It may be from doing this show, but I’ve gotten so anti-remake in the last few years. I’m all for things like enhanced ports, and I can appreciate some remakes for providing a new take on old experiences, but I hate the idea that we need to sand off every quirk of any old game.
