A lot of the cast is human, but aside from Xavier and Aaron, most of them are Avalosian humans. And yes, they do regularly interact with non-human species, such as fairies, talking animals (collectively known as "beastmen"), and even a race of rock people called the Ciarroc.

Since Xavier & Aaron is meant to be a sort of coming-of-age story, most of the protagonists are in their late teens to early-20s. I see Xavier as being around 21, Aaron as 18 (in fact, the story could actually start on his 18th birthday), Jessica as 20, and Nicole as 19.

Rosalyn is a polyglot and has picked up multiple languages throughout her travels, including a few dead languages. Francisca is at least bilingual. She speaks English around her friends, but around her family, she usually speaks Portuguese.

Lots of them do, but Crystal is the most all-around sports fan. Martial arts are her favorite, but she's into all kinds of sports, including basketball, soccer, snowboarding, biking, etc. In fact, this love of sports informs what she and Aaron do when they hang out.

For Xavier, it's his empathy. As competitive and prideful as he can be, he really does care for the people around him and their emotional well-being. If a friend is upset, he's quick to notice and provide comfort, often acting as a safe space for people to open up to about their struggles.
