I too have a collection of baby name books I use to name characters. I have one that’s so old it has a label maker sticker on it saying “character names” because people in middle school kept giving me weird looks until I put it on.

I feel like being unable to process trauma while in an abusive relationship is like trying to solve a math equation that won’t stop changing.

I wish to write, but I also crave sleep.

When the confusion clears, abuse becomes very clear. You can look back on all the lies and manipulations. Abuse is never okay, and never your fault.

Even though the book isn’t a literal account of what I’ve been through, I drew heavily from my own experiences and trauma while writing The Raven Key. Creating it helped me make sense of painful feelings and situations I’ve struggled with.
