I did the math and since I became a mom in 2020 I have had 125 total days off work and that includes two maternity leaves and a bereavement period for losing a parent

The infrastructure will never change mostly because rich men benefit from keeping it this way, but also because some of our likeliest allies genuinely don’t see it as a problem, they see us as prissy complainers too good to use the solutions that definitely actually exist

People talk trash about daycare, but it was my son’s bday party today. He had lots of friends there. Their parents all know and love him. We chatted and laughed and ate lunch. We cleaned up together (despite me assuring them we were good!) We all would never have met if not for daycare.

It’s no different than if they said autism was caused by wearing shoes. They get credit without burden of proof

The Tylenol thing is just another way for them to undermine the trust pregnant people have in their doctors, which further erodes choice and increases maternal/infant mortality

This fantasy of "civil" debate that white cis hetero men (and some people who share some of those identities) have is only ever safely possible for those people. They get to debate the civil rights, the actual lives, health, and livelihoods of people they will never be.

The president is not a pundit. I know many will regard this as quaint but it’s worth saying that a president who gives credence to the theory that an entire opposition party present an existential threat has gone beyond impropriety. This is direct incitement of violence.

There should be wall to wall Dem messaging that this continued insistence by the President and other powerful politicians that the left/Dems want to harm those on the right is an intentional and direct incitement to violence for their base. They know what they are doing as well as the likely result.

I think X/Twitter is a nonstarter not because there is content on the platform I find objectionable. I think so specifically because the algorithm itself was *brazenly manipulated* by its owner in service of a corrosive political project. That’s an important distinction.

The TL;DR is that the pandemic forced many of us to find ways to perform all of our job functions from home, irreparably blurring the lines between work and home. RTO is the worst of all worlds. We are expected to respond to requests around the clock but it only “counts” when we are in the office.

Whenever this comes up, people argue that RTO was the norm pre-2020. And that’s both true and untrue. The childcare landscape is so dramatically different. The cost of group childcare has soared, and many of the centers that closed in 2020 didn’t return. The supplemental childcare many families use

When we think of sexism, it's easy to think of *active* efforts to discriminate against women. But sexism also operates *passively* - like through our inaction on issues like childcare and paid family leave. In that context, return-to-office policies are sexist in consequence, even if not in design.

I truly have never seen such naked opportunism around a killing as what is coming from the right - calls for violence, purges, McCarthyism. It’s the most “politicizing a tragedy” thing I’ve ever seen. It’s much more intense than “cancel culture.”

For everyone lionizing “debate” as a tool for democracy let me deinfluence you. I went to college on a debate scholarship and it mostly turns people into nihilists and opportunists incapable of empathy. No, we are not enhanced by debating some terminally online edgelord about if women should vote.
