Democratized media is increasingly important. That's the idea behind co-ops. Democracy. 501c3s can be top-down. Look at the Propublica Guild struggles. Employee Owned can be top-down, where ownership is just a good retirement plan, but not a vote. Journalists need the freedom to do their jobs.

True story: I read a few of these regularly, largely because they get genuine scoops. Amid all the (very real and very serious) gloom and doom regarding the journalism industry, there are some exciting projects that have sprung up amid the chaos.

these projects will only become more important as the legacy media capture by the right continues!

Saw Colorado Sun on here and was like "hey, isn't that Jason Blevins'?" And yeah. That guy puts out great stuff, he has / had a recurring segment on the Blister Podcast. Great coverage of land use and the burgeoning enclosures.

I'll vouch for the @coloradosun.com, which is a fantastic news source and a rare bright spot in non-NYC, non-California media.

I maintain that the best way to break media concentration is for Congress to pass legislation providing every American adult with an annual stipend to cover subscriptions to qualifying news sources (admittedly details on "qualifying" would need to be worked out)

I love my 404 subscription. It's not on the list and I don't know if it's a worker-owned site, but Wired is also well worth the money.

This is the only way for worthwhile media to survive. Find the voices that resonate with you, and *support them *.
