For me, the funniest part of these threads is not the people who get that it’s a joke and “yes and” it, and it’s not the people who don’t get that it’s a joke and get enraged about it, it’s the people that don’t get that it’s a joke and strongly agree with the premise.

These headlines tie my brain into a pretzel sometimes. If I read this correctly, somebody is trying to stop something, and people tried to stop that stopping, but the stopping of the stopping has been stopped. I assume that those who have just been stopped will appeal that stop to a higher stopper.

Not fining anyone, just asking people to behave a little better, is enough to throw the entire right wing outrage machine into high gear whenever we do it.

I agree this is a moment when we all need to work together in getting the temperature down, but that doesn't mean excusing hate speech. Charlie Kirk did not support free and open debate. He supported engaging in bad faith as a monetization strategy and otherwise suppressing free speech.

This should go without saying, but Trump is not opposed to political violence. He’s opposed to violence against his political allies. He is either silent about, or approving of, violence against his political enemies.

In his Oval Office address on political violence, Trump lists the attempt on his life, the Scalise shooting, and attacks on ICE agents. He does not mention Jan 6th, the attack on the Pelosi family, the Hortman murders, the kidnapping attempt on Gretchen Whitmer, or the fire at Gov Shapiro’s house.

Excellent thread. I'll just add that there's a long history of blaming liberals for reactionary political dynamics that were cultivated by coordinated political campaigns by the far right. There is no law of nature that produces "backlash politics." It's politics (and propaganda) that produces it.
