With Riley Greene’s blast in the 6th inning today, the Tigers hit 9 HRs in Mar/Apr. In 2022, they had 8 HRs in Mar/Apr. They have 24 games left.

Framber Valdez is the first Tigers starter to give up 10+ runs and get 3.0 IP or fewer in a start since Jeremy Bonderman did on 7/29/07 when he went 2.1 IP and gave up 11 (10 earned) vs the Angels.

Kevin McGonigle’s .435 BA with RISP was 8th. After his last 2 PA, it will be .480 and leading the league. Not sure to what, but his 212 wRC+ is probably going to go a bit higher as well.

I love how often Kevin McGonigle has hit 2nd. There’s 15 instances of a rookie aged 21 or younger getting 300+ PA (about half a season) in the 2 spot. That includes 3 guys who hit 10+ HRs: Frank Robinson (27), Bryce Harper (20), Gene Freese (10).

Not sure who this would entertain, but here's a quick plot between acceleration on the y-axis and velocity. On top of biomechanics and ML, I've started looking at the physics side of baseball as well. This is Joe Ryan vs Tarik Skubal and their 4S. The histplot is all pitches from the AL Central.

Hey there! Been a while, but I come with a custom GIF that I hope works on here. Basically it's using Driveline's biomechanics information and it shows 2 pitches thrown in sync with each other from the catchers POV.

Dillon Dingler is just the 7th Tigers catcher to hit a home run in the post season. 1 more and he ties Lance Parrish for 2nd all time, 2 more HR ties Alex Avila for most. Per

If Tarik Skubal gets 3 more starts and averages 7 IP per start, he’s can give up 2 runs to end the season with an ERA less than 2.00 on the season. Would be the first for a Tigers starter with 20+ starts since Denny McLain in 1968. If he keeps every 5th day he faces Miami, Cleveland, Cleveland.

I don’t know if this makes anyone feel better, but the 2017 Los Angeles Dodgers had a span where they were 1-12 and went on to win 104 games and make the playoffs. Even made the World Series. 7 other teams did so and made the playoffs still.

He's also tied with Jackson Jobe for 5th most 99+ MPH pitches by a Tigers starter since 2008. It's a pretty small list though as he's just the 8th to even do so.

With that 7th K, Melton ties 5 others for the second most Ks for a Tigers pitcher who made their MLB debut. Not his best outing, but it's not all bad!

That Riley triple now gives him an OPS of .814 with RISP, which would make him the 6th Tigers hitter with an OPS .814 or better with RISP and at least 60 PA.

I might curse this but… Tarik Skubal could be the 19th pitcher to complete the 1st half with: 120+ IP 84+% Win/Lose% ERA <= 2.00 He would be the 1st since Clayton Kershaw in 2016 and 2nd Tiger joining Hal Newhouser.

Made a 3D swing path with 3D strike zone using the Driveline Biomechanics project. I wonder if we should be talking about the strike zone less as a 3x3 grid and more of a 3x3x3 grid given how it needs to be covered.

Junior Caminero has the flattest swing path of any of the competitors in the Derby, & is also tied for the lowest attack angle. But something pretty interesting: after a first month of not really pulling in the air, he's been doing it consistently for weeks.

A very early work in progress here; got a 3D plot of contact points for hitters. I really like the way it looks. Once I'm more certain the data is plotting correctly, I'll feel good about splitting it up into other plots like BIP result and swing angle, among other ideas.

8:0 K:BB for Casey Mize would be the second best ratio in his career. He had a 10:0 K:BB on 6/24/24. His current 74 GSv2 would also be the second best to 76 on 4/12/21. His current 38.1% K% would be 3rd best behind 6/24/24 and 9/26/24. Huge game for Casey Mize.

I saw something interesting with Javier Baez's Fielding page. On the Catch Probability portion where you can click and view the play, it brings up hitting videos for Javier and not fielding. I checked to see if it was 2025 only, but 2024 seems to also be that way.
