Happy to be heading home after two wonderful, albeit exhausting, weeks. I think we’re both looking forward to non-lumpy pillows and our own bed.

20+ years of vegetarianism and I’m only just now learning how to cook tofu properly. I had no idea all of the meat cooking techniques I was using could be transferred over. Why did nobody tell me? Goodbye tasteless, soggy tofu - hello yum!

Chimeric bird, a “gynandromorph,” resulted from male & female embryos fusing & then developing into a single bird. “We never observed the bird singing & never saw it paired with another cardinal. It was one of the most unusual & striking birds that I've ever seen.”

I’d love to share more of my vintage smut, but since Bluesky apparently can’t handle the illustrated covers, we’ll have to settle for the back copy. Sex Alley by Ron Gold (1966)

An extremely Disneyesque scene in the backyard right now: two rabbits, a squirrel, a blue jay, a robin, and a few house sparrows are all out adventuring together while a chipmunk watches from the fence.

Every part of the lily plant is deadly to cats - even drinking water that lilies were sitting in can kill them. Other popular spring flowers like tulips and daffodils can also make them very sick, but there are plenty of beautiful and safe alternatives.

On this Maundy Thursday read a sonnet of that title by Mykola Zerov (1890-1937), a poet executed by the NKVD, along with hundreds of Ukraine’s leading intellectuals, in the years of Stalin’s purges.
