Happy birthday to Shirley Jackson, an all-time favorite of mine. To celebrate, here's my favorite Jackson paperback cover art, an image that famously captures the central theme of The Lottery: boobs.

I already have all four of Erin's zines and I just ordered this bundle. It's a great deal and I want to have reading copies as well as clean backup copies in case something happens to those. (Looking at you barfing cat.) My favorite is whichever one I happen to be reading at the moment.

~ Thirty More Novels for
#Noirvember
~ Day 25: A KILLER IS LOOSE (1954) A pacy, gripping ride-along noir in which the story’s hero gains the unwanted friendship of a maniac. For those who think a Gil Brewer novel without a femme fatale is like sex without foreplay, this will set you straight.

She has a finely tuned aesthetic that leans to the strange, dark, inscrutable, and kinky. And then there are items she's collected which exhibit a banality that like a David Lynch film suggest that the slightest scratch to the surface will reveal a depth of darkness that you may not wish to penetrate

This trip gave me my first real opportunity to photograph stained glass. I can’t say I was super successful (about 1 in 8 came out properly) but after getting some helpful tips from photog friends I am certainly eager to try again! 📸

What a treat it was to photograph the misericords at Cartmel Priory, which date back to around 1440. Growing up in Los Angeles, a building from 1900 feels old, so it’s such a joy to visit a place with this much history.

I just ordered Erin’s latest found photo zine, A Violent Life. Her previous photo zines, Danse Macabre and Untamed were excellent, and I can’t wait see this one. She has a good eye and a knack for choosing the perfect image.
