And: of all the wonders of modern science I think about most often it's now hot water bottles keep warm all night until the morning now. As a child, it would stay warm half the night if you were lucky.

A couple of observations: I've been eating boiled eggs at my desk for years now, but frankly, they're not a good desk food.

@Rachel Parris Brill podcast. Now I know why I prefer to hear comics discussing their craft than actually watching their craft. On a gameshow it's just a bit fake.

Does anyone else enthusiastically put lights up in an empty room to amuse passers by and then think, nah, when it comes to leaving the fireside to go and put them on?

A very Christmassy day. More decorations brought down from the attic. Have booked the grandchildren to decorate the tree at the weekend. It's just not my job.

Confess to missing this time last year when the house was full of my son and his two children. It was noisy and messy and Escape to the Country was a treat, but now it's too grown-ups being tidy and quiet.

do you have your tree where you can see it all the time? Or in a larger, cooler space where you can see it as you come up the hill? we have this discussion every year.

I was feeling proud of my group, middle class women of a certain age, when I realised I'm not of that certain age. I am far older! (still proud of the uppity women though.)

Breaking out the heated blanket in my office. I held off for ages as it was in a box and I thought it would be a really easy present to wrap, should anyone want it. Had already given my GD one (in use already!) so it's just me. Big moment.

They call those ancient stone treads you find on Barrowcross Moor 'Faery Steps'. Few will climb them, for the superstition is strong that you can never be sure which world awaits you at their top. –

there are many reasons why I hate 'gift' as a verb but one of them is the fact I misunderstand things. I still thing 'most gifted' means 'most talented.' Often disappointed.

But the good news is, it's so freezing cold I can wear my favourite warm jumper. And last night as I went to bed, I could see people's outside lights scattered about the hillside. A bit like a Christmas card which would have glitter on, like the old days.

Huge drama when I thought I'd left my phone behind. Kind person (new friend!) lent me her phone so I could phone DH to bring it to me. He didn't come. Then my hand went right down to the bottom of the pocket in my Irish Walking Cape and there it was, my phone. We were so happy to see each other.

ready to do to London wearing what nowadays would be called a coatigan, but when I bought it A LOT of years ago, it was a long cardie. Going for warmth and not glamour. It's frosty out there!

Can I have some BlueSky thinking? Given that I'm not going to make my own crackers, which ones should I go for? The cheapest and cheeriest, you only want them for the bang? (although I will avoid plastic presents.). Or something grander at twice the price, but possibly worth it?

London please help. I’m praying for a miracle, I’ve just got into the office and noticed my mums locket (in all these photos) that I wear every day has fallen off my neck on my walk in. My mum died when I was seven and her jewellery is most of what I have of her. I’m devastated

However, waking early meant I had time to listen to a very jolly podcast. 'Perfect Day' with Jessica Knappet crossed with Adam Buxton. I had been hoping it would send me back to sleep but it made me laugh too much.

DH and I have developed a Walton's habit. I march up and down (my version of exercise, easy but fairly useless) while we watch and get sentimental. Today Grandpa nearly died. I had to reapply my make up before I could have a zoom call.

In the olden days, before the days of extractors on cookers, our kitchen was snuggly warm in the morning. Nowadays, wind whistles into it and it's not. Though getting me out of the kitchen is probably a good thing. It's very near the food.

Confess to loving this time of year. The leaves off the trees so you can see the birds, and that lovely time in the evening before it's properly dark but people are starting to put their lights on. Add a bit of frost or snow, and it's very Jacquie Lawson.
