Last day of WonderCon! I had a really solid day yesterday, outpacing Friday by quite a bit. I’m already happy how this show had turned out and, even more, enjoyed the fun conversations with attendees and colleagues that aren’t always possible at larger, busier shows.

My photos from the Jan. 17, 1994, Northridge Earthquake, which was MLK Day—though I experienced no personal damage being 25 miles away, my job at the time was in the epicenter, and I was asked to return to the office three days later. We worked in temporary quarters for the next several years.

RIP Robert Redford. He had a great career arc but I particularly admired his 1970's and later political/spy thrillers like Three Days of the Condor, All the President's Men and Spy Game. Anyone familiar with my work on Rob Hanes Adventures will see some of the DNA of those films in my work.

At Long Beach Comic Con recently, I had artist/writer Howard Chaykin sign my copy of the back cover to Blackhawk #3, since I have the original hanging on my wall, which I purchased from him in 1991! Also brought some recent collections of his work to sign, and got an American Flagg print.

On September 10th, 1966, the original SPACE GHOST animated series made its official debut! Happy 59th birthday, Big Guy!

Happy birthday to cartoonist Frank Robbins (1917-94), creator of Johnny Hazard, who cut his teeth on Scorchy Smith, and worked for DC and Marvel in his later years. Out of the Caniff/Sickles school, he was a terrific draftsman whose stories were always jaunty and fast moving! Even own an original!

Recently saw the Jack Kirby exhibition at the Skirball Cultural Center museum in L.A.! Plenty of original art, and a fitting tribute to his life, visionary imagination, and impact on comics and modern culture and mythology.
