And that's without even getting into how often state-run farm conservation easements turn into political patronage programs. Donors & politically connected landowners are way more likely to get their farmland "conserved"! Not that North Carolina would know anything about that!

The harsh reality is a lot of conservation easements don't actually keep owners from developing the land. Or keep their farms in business. Kinda makes you wonder what we're paying them for!
