Something to remember: ppl who don't draw are often inexperienced in observing and commenting on art. They try to connect w/ it on familiar grounds, which means relating it to something they know and understand. Often, people relating your work to other things is them trying to relate to it in turn.

A free piece of advice for new writers: talk about your failures and frustrations with your friends. If you try to leverage sympathy from the public to sell your work, you'll screw yourself in the long term even if it works in the short. You become an obligation to the people buying your work.

never talk shit about yourself in public tbh. really never do that in general but what good is ever gonna come of doing it wherepeople who give you money can see it. if you don't think your work is good why should they, and if you don't think it's good why share it at all.
