Serena will never have a good relationship with her mother. Distance and firm personal boundaries allows for occasional communication. If money was no issue, I'd open a Reading Nook. Some books for sale and accepting orders, but mostly just a place where people can come in and read quietly from a rotating collection of books. All wood paneling, stained glass, and cozy places to curl up.

Serena doesn't want to talk about the supernatural things she's seen or that she needs help to get out of a bad home situation. In her experience, exposing vulnerability or 'abnormality' leads to rejection and being exposed to further abuse. Too sensitive. Liar. Crazy. Silence is safety.

Orin prefers to not talk about his family. In fact, he would prefer to not think about his past or some of the things that happened. It's not like he died. Not really. He got better. There's no existential dread that he's not the original Orin or trauma over his murder. Nothing to discuss. At all.

The CPU on my 8 months old laptop is dead. I can only hope that, because it's under warranty still, it *might* be repaired or replaced.

One of the most indulgently entertaining parts of writing Serena and Orin is that they are basically bookworms LARPing romance novels together. The fantasy is entirely a construct, but the underlying relationship is real.
