I love that Shoji Kawamori had to explain why Maximilian and Milia are a couple and he decided to explain straight people, gay people, and these two who are sexual for each other specific. It's wild to me how easily businesses will convince you their little boutique labels are mom and pop operations. When I was in college a few of us tried to start a feminist theory reading group on campus. But we had to shut it down because this one incel type guy would show up every week and monopolize the hour by shouting about evolutionary psychology whenever we tried to talk. I think about him a lot.

There's "artist obsession" and then there's Grant Morrison's self-mythologizing repurposing designs/beats to echo their earlier works and create a critical looping, but Morrison has also turned it to other artists, as with many references-without-deeper-significance in their company superhero works.

Savage Dragon can do things like have ICE acting like ICE and being horrible because it's not owned by something working closely with the CIA, the FBI, or the Army. Or, Warner Bros and Disney. A lot of indie comics could, really, but props to Erik Larsen for doing it.
