A stronger budget performance today from the Chancellor than many in Westminster had expected. Some strong announcements for addressing poverty and taxing the wealthiest. But addressing the cost of living is vital to keep the consensus the gov has built for its climate and environmental ambition.

This is important and depressing. Key point for me: you cannot understand anything in British politics today without understanding the radicalisation of right-leaning media in Britain and the power X has added to its ability to set the agenda.
