Productive meeting with Baroness Merron and campaigner @hopevirgo.bsky.social to discuss eating disorder prevention and treatment. Eating disorder cases are skyrocketing- yet treatment is often underfunded and misunderstood. I will keep pushing the government to make eating disorders a priority.

Extraordinary Westminster Hall debate on eating disorders awareness this morning. A clear call for a national strategy on ED and further investment for failing services. Thanks to @werahobhouse.bsky.social & @hopevirgo.bsky.social for their tireless work with the ED APPG to make this happen.

🧵 Five years on since the first lockdown, we are still seeing the profound impacts of the #Covid19 pandemic - including in rising levels of mental health problems.

Good to meet with the Centre for Countering Digital Hate this morning with @hopevirgo.bsky.social Their new research shows that the YouTube algorithm recommends harmful eating disorder content to 13y/o girls. As Chair of the Eating Disorders APPG, I'm working to prevent this dangerous exposure.

Feedback from Services in Wales when asking to move patients to England for ED Beds 'when I have begged for her to be taken to a specialist eating disorder unit they won't do this as the NHS in Wales will not pay for it as currently the outcomes in these wards are poor'

Our report makes a range of recommendations, including... 1️⃣ a national strategy for eating disorders to ensure patients get the care they deserve, 2️⃣ mandatory training for all Front-Line Workers, 3️⃣ a confidential inquiry into eating disorder-related deaths. You can read the report here👇

One of my hopes for 2025 is to make real progress to improve eating disorder services. Eating disorders have the highest mortality rates among mental health disorders, despite being treatable. Tomorrow my Eating Disorders APPG will launch a landmark report highlighting the severity of the crisis👇
