This week's journal club features a paper from our excellent colleague and PhD researcher, Saakshi Kakar, in which she conducted a large-scale analysis of under-recognised weight loss behaviours in individuals with eating disorders.

Currently, eating disorder services do not collect consistent routine data, which means we have limited knowledge of the effectiveness of care. Funded by us, a new study has identified a standardised dataset to be collected by a clinical research network in the UK, EDCRN (@edcrn.bsky.social). [1/3]

A reminder that any person in any body can have any eating disorder. Thin people can have Binge Eating Disorder, and people in larger bodies can have anorexia or bulimia. Just as you can't tell if someone has an ED by their body size, you also can't tell WHICH ED they have.

Two recommendations from today's APPG for Eating Disorders Report of particular relevance to EDCRN: 📣Additional funding for child and adult eating disorders services 📣Increased funding for research which aims to improve outcomes for those affected by eating disorders.
