This afternoons Lesser Kestrel at Croft Pascoe. Just the 2nd accepted record for Cornwall, an excellent find by John Foster 👏 a stunning bird and the best views of one that I've ever had. #cornwallbirding

Took a trip up to Ripley; Hampshire on my day off to see the Killdeer. A much wanted lifer ! Whilst the red eye ring not always easy to see, the striking double breast band , strong bill , obv larger size , attenuated rear end and a "bobbing" action like an LRP were good features to learn.

My final birding trip of 2025 was to Texel , to see Spectacled Eider & Black-faced Bunting plus enjoy watching thousands of geese. We were very lucky with the Eider as it was taken into care the day after we saw it. I hope it recovers🤞 Happy New Year to all and here's to a bird filled 2026!

Nice to find this Tundra Bean Goose at Walmsley today. A rare bird in Cornwall and I think the first record since the influx of 2021/22. Plenty of wildfowl in the reserve including 17 Pintail. #cornwallbirding

Great seawatching at Porthgwarra today with Reuben, Martin E , Paul St P, Mark W and Mike McKee. Hundreds of Large Shearwaters , 8-9 sightings of Wilson's Petrel , Black Tern, Arctic Terns , Bonxies etc etc . Highlight for me were close views of 4 adult Long-tailed Skua #cornwallbirding

Stonking adult American Golden Plover flew low / east , calling over Porth Joke at 7:25pm this evening. Interestingly the 3rd adult I've found in Cornwall over the years ( other two at Crowdy and Nanjizal ) #cornwallbirding

Ashy-headed Wagtail at Pendeen showed superbly between 2pm and 3pm . A great find by Graham Lawlor in what has been an unprecedented arrival of continental race Yellow Wagtails in the south west this weekend. Especially considering it’s March !

Male Purple Sunbird from Kuwait. Still a mega in the WP but we saw 10 individuals during the week . Perhaps they will breed in the country this year #birding

Some nice gulls on Hayle Estuary today (12th Feb 25). Adult Ring-billed Gull, Ad Yellow-legged Gull, 3w Glaucous Gull (pic), 400+ LBBG resting up and about 60 Common Gull. Plus Danish ringed 2w Spoonbill for good measure. #cornwallbirding

Common Redshanks fighting each other for several minutes on Hayle Estuary today, sometimes one holding the other one under the water. Both eventually walked away, seemingly none the worse for wear. Near-adult Glaucous Gull still at Lelant and Great Egret at Ryan's Field. #cornwallbirding

Indian Pond Heron (right) & Squacco Heron (left) from our trip to Kuwait last week. The Pond Heron shows bolder streaking to the belly and darker upperparts compared to the Squacco. We were very relieved to connect with this 3rd for the WP , found earlier in the month by Paul Doniol-Valcroze
