A legacy ensuring anyone would look at their work/dominance in corperate home computing, All thrown in the shitter…

There *has* to be better regulation of company acquisition. What Microsoft did to the industry was nothing short of legalized industrial sabotage. It’s corporate espionage without the subtlety but all of the theft. Rules against monopolies don’t cut it. This is different but just as bad.

It should never have been legal. Wholesale destruction of an entire medium isn’t something corporations should be empowered to do. Microsoft was laying off thousands of people at the EXACT same time it fought to acquire Activision for billions of dollars. How is that not utter madness?

Microsoft, Tencent, and their contemporaries cannot be forgiven for the way they vandalized and ransacked the game industry. Too many good studios have been stolen from the world by the companies that consumed them. Hell, *one* was too many. They burgled the house and then set fire to it.

A lot of the “kids online safety” proponents actually are anti-LGBTQ extremists and fundamentalists who want kids to have less freedom and don’t care if that actually makes them tremendously less safe too

Another random old-ish game rec, this time a RPG: Arcanum: of steamworks and magik obscura. Steampunk-fantasy game, made by a studio full of former Black Isle studios (fallout 1-2) staff, That genuinely deserves a lot more notice then it got-legitimately interesting setting and good writing,

Another suprisingly fun FOS: Raven Software’s Singularity. The temporal manipulation device abilities are cool and fun, But for the most part, it plays like.. What’s a good wording. A “greatest hits” compilation, Design/gameplay wise, of things that were very fun/worked well in its generation.

Also, For older game recs: Final fantasy mystic quest. It’s unapologetically a very easy game, But its simplicity actually works- consistently fun,and a genuinely good soundtrack that stands up there with a lot of SQ’s much bigger games

Also, quick heads up if you do play deus ex 1- The sweet spot for mostly-reliably one hit KO’ing a human enemy with a baton isn’t the head.behind, Somewhere around kidney level is about 60-70% reliable even if you don’t have much XP invested in melee combat training/a strength enhanced aug installed

Also, if you dabble in emulation? Ghost in the shell for Ps1. Can’t recomend it enough- if there’s a legal way to get it and play it on a modem systems it’s a must get if it’s possible- The former happy videogame nerd did a really good review of it, And the game it was a spiritual successor to

I dunno-I guess it feels nice to look back, and reflect on things both old, and not so old, That were really good/even just “just worked”, Woth how much negativity, slop, And screwed up ripoffs are around today- though the last is far from new, to be fair xD

And looking back at other kinds of games- The origional Deus Ex still holds up shockingly well for its age, In gameplay, writing, and most suprisingly graphics, if you grab one of those unreal engine 1 drop-in replacements for the rendering stuff- the models/texturing still looks good for its age..

Also, Speaking of nostalgia from that time period- If you enjoy RTS games, And haven’t played/heard of it before, Take a look at Warzone 2100. Came out the same time period as tiberian sun, and did a LOT of unique/fascinating things for the time period- it’s been OS and community maintained for-
