Woke up with a migraine and the snow starting up again. Then the caregiver showed up with a cold so I sent him home, giving up my day off. I didn’t call the agency to send someone else because even if there was someone else, I don’t have the energy to train a stranger mom may not like #caregiver

Every time a big storm comes through I remember a neighbor a few years ago, a renter, who saw my birdfeeder and put one out herself. But she took it in before a big storm. Later when I asked her why, she said she thought the birds would be hunkered down and not come out in the bad weather. 🪶

And my sweet, kind, long-suffering husband didn’t sign up for any of this! I understand this is the point of human existence: to help each other, to care for the vulnerable, that’s good, that’s right. Doesn’t mean it isn’t incredibly difficult.

I’ll miss her forever when she’s gone, but not these things. I really miss dinner with *just* my husband. We live in a one person nursing home. 8 years now. Yes I can get respite. It doesn’t help 🤷🏻‍♀️ IYKYK

Dinnertime has become so fraught, mom (91) is not as able to do ordinary things anymore, losing mobility, sometimes has a “heavy head”, then there’s the whole bathroom adventure we go on afterwards which has started to ruin my dinner as well. #Caregiving sucks, I understand why folks don’t do it.
