Yesterday I was very pleased to organize a game designer seminar here at @sdhistcon.bsky.social , with acclaimed guests @danbullock.bsky.social , @colewehrle.bsky.social and @volko.bsky.social . We spoke for around 2 hours about constraints in game design and players feelings toward randomness.

I am very proud to say I helped playtesting this game. I absolutely love how intricate the cat-and-mouse game can get, and yet the game always preserves a breezy, playful feeling. And it ended up gorgeous! I absolutely recommend it. Great job @volko.bsky.social and @fortcircle.bsky.social !

I'm happy to share that a week ago I was part of the San Diego Historical Games Convention @sdhistcon.bsky.social for the first time. My main objective was to show my game, Palmares, to players, publishers, and designers to help determine which direction I should pursue next. #sdhist2024

So... I made a competitive sandbox game that plays in two hours (three on the first play). The scores generally range from 1-7 with the occasional zero or an enviable 8. How important is it to your play experience that scores be high? Is it just a vibe or dissatisfaction with ties?

This week I was playing "Storm over Jerusalem", an impressive first-time design from Scott Blanton, published by MMP. I loved how the game blends calculated risks with a potential for awesome plays by using two dice + deterministic information + card effects. ⚔️

The start of something new. Just played Undaunted Stalingrad, as promised @djackthompson.bsky.social with my pops, a gift he gave me for my birthday. A delightful experience. He quickly learnt the system and we got 2 close matches. Looking forward to starting the campaign!

I absolutely love everything about this. The music in the background compliments it so well. Hope these essays keep going!!

This past Friday I had the pleasure of playing @sebastianbae.bsky.social 's Littoral Commander, a game that put us in command of a potential futuristic conflict between the US and China, coupling Sea/Land/Air combat capabilities. I really admire the pedagogical achievement here.
