I started writing a very inspirational blog post today. It says: banning books is bad.

Just unsubscribed from a bookish newsletter I’ve been getting for six years bc they liked JD Vance’s memoir and were looking forward to reading his conversion story book. The content was getting less relevant to me but that sealed it. Sigh.

The new curtains I got for the room upstairs are not room darkening at all. Apparently the room is brighter than before 🤦‍♀️ except now the glow is neutral instead of pink… One window has no blinds and is huge. I’m wondering about darkening panels to put behind the curtains? On just that one?

Found a new (coed) soccer league. Open up its staff page to see the first guy on the list is the guy who got fired from (ineptly) running the other soccer league for unofficially “registering” kids and pocketing registration fees. So. Won’t be doing that one. Don’t want that guy around my kids.

It’s maddening to live in a place that is as or more expensive than more developed areas (like where we lived in NoVA) but not have those amenities or resources. “First world problems” I know but it’s proving quite difficult to find a girls soccer league. And a Cub Scout pack.

My cognition has improved much more than my physical abilities (tho my physical suffering has lessened immensely) — but it’s still nowhere near my pre illness level. It means I often can’t do stuff or read stuff I’m interested in. I try to be grateful for what I’ve regained but it’s frustrating.

Something we started doing when Covid first started was having everyone in the family wash their hands upon entering the house — after school, shopping, playing, — and it honestly blows my mind that we didn’t always do this? How much grossness do we bring into our homes and spread on everything?!?

One of the legs fell off my dresser-top bookshelf ☹️ trying glue but I’m not sure it’s gonna hold. I think I overtaxed it 😬

been thinking about enjambment and how you can add velocity to a poem by using an enjambment on a verb which helps readers anticipate the direct object at the start of the following line and this micro control of anticipation is so much more interesting to think about re: line breaks than “breath”

In about 7 hours my husband will be home and even tho he’ll be a jet lagged mess the world will partially right itself. (Grandparents are here, I’m not alone with the kids. He just is so much more than My Person. He IS home. Yes, that’s sappy. But it’s true.)

Here’s a little story about Myalgic Encephalomyelitis. In April I had a procedure under anesthesia where an unmasked doctor made me sick. The immediate procedure recovery & acute infection both lasted ~a week, but the stress on my body caused an intense bout of post exertional malaise (aka a crash).
