I realize that not all menopausal people get the intrusive thoughts/garbage brain, but jeez, this is bullshit. I was told my whole life that this part would be better. My 19 year old self would be so pissed. I survived my teen years on spite and music, my 40's are far more challenging.

I've always been nervous about going to the doctor, but the pandemic wrecked me going to the vet. Having one cat with dental issues and an elderly cat meant sitting in the vet parking lot for hours during 2020 and 2021. I know it isn't happening now, but lizard brain isn't buying it.

On the edge of menopause and this sucks. Started tracking my symptoms, got a new doctor, and gave her the run down. Got on E patches and Progesterone pills. I sleep now, but I have 21 days on P and 8 days off, and the 8 days suck ass. The patches run out about 36+ hours before change.

Rainy days are so soothing to me.

There's a spider in the guest bathroom that has 6.5 legs. This means they met Rose. I'm glad they got away without a mortal wound, but I really feel bad about the half leg.

I'm so happy that my semi-former vet recommended another vet to me for urgent care. The new vet has more staff, which means they aren't booked out for weeks. They are in a more rural area and it takes a bit longer to get there, but for same day/week appointments, I'll make the trip.

I grew up fairly close to Boston, and my accent still lingers on words I learned/used before I got to my 20's. Then I moved an equal distance from Philly, which further colors my accent. In the northeast, "Aunt" is pronounced using the u, so it comes out "Ahnt" rather than "Ant".

I have a completely unreliable superpower called hot flashes. I go into a store, and half way through shopping I feel like I'm in a sauna. I go to my car and open the windows in 40 degree weather like it is totally normal. Seasonal defective and this bullshit, how am I supposed to hold onto sanity?

I'm seasonally defective. It's bad this year, only a week in and I'm done with it looking like it is 3pm all day.

Nobody told me exactly how easy it is to pull muscles when you are over 45. I mean, yeah, I'd heard people talk about throwing out their back by sneezing. I didn't sneeze, I just twisted the wrong way while sitting down. Now my left hip hates me. Getting up from sitting is a new form of torture.

I was such an MTV kid that when I listen to old songs, quite often I hallucinate/play back the videos as I listen to the music. I didn't realize this until I listened to a particular song and became aware of the images playing in my head. I'm fascinated by my brain, it holds on to some weird stuff.

As a child that grew up when 80's music was happening, it is surreal to listen to some of those songs and realize that we've been living this bullshit right along. It is undeniably right in our faces now, but it was always there, if you listen to the lyrics. Music is history, unvarnished.

Emailed my Senators. Tried to call and leave a message - voicemail is full. Keep up the calls and emails, folks. Healthcare is important to us all and to threaten it for trans people is to threaten it for us all.

Still have Covid. Still annoyed at the people who gave it to me. Still annoyed at myself for exposing others. Wear a mask, protect yourself and others.

This is my life now, an hour+ yesterday trying to get a prescription. Today a half hour trying to get someone at the pharmacy. This is normal, this is our reality. We got spoiled for a time there when we could get almost anything within a day's time.

Get vaccinated. Wear a mask.

Found out this morning that it is possible for pets to get Covid, after my boy cat has been snuggling with me for the past 24 hours like it was his job. I really hope the kitties don't get it. This sucks and I'm kind of mad at the world right now.

Tested positive for Covid for the first time. Not excited.

Readying for parental visit. Gonna cook, sightsee, and do home maintenance. Unfortunately, can't take them to the cat cafe this visit, because that's how we end up with a new cat and I'm not sure I'm ready for more chaos.

Had a nice little birthday date with my wifey, @pmfrlyn.bsky.social, today. We went out for lunch, checked out a couple of shops, and walked by the water for a bit. We saw two river otters playing in the water. I think I'm old enough to enjoy simple birthdays.

We may not have fireflies out here in the PNW, but we make up for it with enormous dragonflies in a variety of colors. I've been so happy to see them zooming around.

Also foraged food rocks. Our local farmer's market group gets some awesome stuff. So far I've had mushrooms, ferns, and today sea beans. I look forward to new things as the year goes by.

On my second double of 100 proof rum, cut with triple sec, lime and an ice cube. Fuck it, I'm done with reality today.

I wonder if I spent too much time at the mall as a teen and used up all my shopping for "fun" time up. Now I try to go out when there are the least people in the store and get out as quickly as possible.

On a higher dose of anti-depressants. It's weird timing with daylight savings - I'm groggy as hell, but the anxiety is far more quiet than it has been in a while. Nothing is going to fix the depression. Now, at least, I don't want to hide under a rock - I want to throw it.

Your periodic reminder that if you need to get out of your house FAST, do not bother trying to stuff your cats into carriers, just scoop them up in pillowcases. (You can drop said squirming rage sacks into carriers for added security if you have time.)

There's nothing wrong if you don't feel like celebrating. But tonight, I'm just grateful for the things that went right. And glad to have made it this far. Let's support and educate each other in 2025. Let's make each other laugh. Let's cry together. Let's fight together.
