Almost certainly the best thing I was ever told about owls was when I met an owl handler at an owl sanctuary and he told me that the wild owls who lived near the sanctuary worried about the tame show owls there and sometimes stopped by to leave them shrews and mice as presents.

For any of you cycling nerds, Lael Wilcox started her new around the world attempt at the world record at 4am this morning in Chicago and was passing nearby us in Wisconsin so we biked over to show support.

Three of my FIL's (11!) siblings (plus a sib-in-law) drove all day to come down to see him and Joe and I heard about it last minute and it was so heartwarming to get to have dinner with them on the spot. Not sure I've ever had that much fun at Pasta House. Sweet people and amazing stories.

My eternal nightmare. A friend of mine was literally run down in a crosswalk (by a speeding driver who didn't stop) while walking her two Labs a couple years back. SOMEHOW the dogs were uninjured and didn't run off; 20-some surgeries later, the friend is doing pretty well too. Horrifying.

A citation? Not enough, Edwardsville. Not by a long shot. This is a quiet neighborhood intersection with four clearly marked stop signs and crossswalks, and the driver hit a woman and caused her dog to be lost. Joe went biking this afternoon in the area it was last seen to try to look for it :(

Dammit. This is our neighborhood. Get it together, fellow drivers! I hope they find the dog and that the woman is OK :-(
