Movie no. 7, “The Prowler.” Masterpiece. The set design in this movie—the big hacienda, Webb’s claustrophobic apartment, the Vegas motor court, the ghost town—engender an atmosphere where emptiness is palpable. Van Heflin feels like if a real person tried to live out a Gatsby fantasy.

Yesterday I watched The Fly (1986) for the first time and loved it. I typically don't react strongly to gore, but there were several moments that caused me to utter aloud "eww, gross." Today, I'm thinking about how stupid the effects would have been if they had been computer-generated.

So jazzed about this new release, a collection of four Dan Curtis-produced episodes of ABC's Wide World of Mystery. We watched an episode with George Maharis over the weekend. It was great!

This month's 90's Soundtrack Movies collection on Criterion is filled with some of the great usual suspects, but one I had never even heard of before was Deep Cover (1992) featuring an imposing and electric Laurence Fishburne and a supremely sleazy Jeff Goldblum. 10/10, worth checking out!
