CEO pay is up 1,094% since 1978, while worker pay is up just 26%. Why do we always hear "we can't afford to pay our workers more" but never "we can't afford to pay our CEO more"?

Five corporations control 90% of the US media market. Airlines merged from 12 major carriers in 1980 to 4 today. Four giants control 80% of meat processing. A handful of companies control the pharmaceutical industry. The evidence of corporate concentration is everywhere.

At a major "anti-hate" conference a few years ago I was on a panel where I lightly suggested big tech companies were faking their concerns about hate/misinfo. It didn't go over too well. But let the record show that once again I was right. They only care about money.

Try to imagine chemistry without JJ Berzelius, who, after thousands of experiments, published the first precise list of atomic weights (1818). Yet Berzelius might have remained a mere physician had he never met Anders Ekeberg. Teachers can influence the course of history. 🧪
